New Years Party Fun for the whole Family

I know I know I knooooowww. We’re all waiting for that tick of the clock to tock its way over to 2021. A new beginning, a fresh start and most of all hope for the end of a globally distressing era. I’d want to party to that! Though like most celebrations of 2020 I won’t be downing the champas surrounded by sweaty people dancing under lasers or in the desert #dreamingofafunparty. I will be staying at home with my nucleus family in yet another lockdown doing our part to push forward by simply staying still.

But hey that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! I plan on throwing the BEST new years party ever for my mostest and closest. No I won’t be putting on my hazmat suit and braving the dollar stores or max stock for supplies. I’m going to show you exactly how things you probably have at home can already create those New Years party vibes!

So here are my top 4 family friendly party ideas for New Years Eve! A Party is a party… even if it finishes at 9pm… who am I kidding, my dream party finishes at 9pm.

Party Confetti Poppers!

I like this craft because with a bit of prep the kids really can do most of it by themselves. I pre-cut contact paper for the tube and layed down pom poms for confetti. If you don’t have pom poms you can really use anything like scrunched up paper or little pieces of silver foil if that’s what you have at home. As you can see in the video below there were lots of laughs and fun around these. I used The Crafting Chics tutorial but it’s really easy!

You need:

  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Contact paper or Markers for decorating
  • Masking or colored electrical tape
  • Balloon
  • Scissors
  • Pompoms or something for the ‘confetti’

Step 1: Decorate your toilet roll.

Step 2: Tie a knot in the balloon then cut the round end off.

Step 3: Attach the balloon to one end of the toilet roll and seal it with your tape.

*(we used washi tape and it wasn’t really strong enough, I had to hold it where it was attached to stop it falling off)

Step 4: Add in your ‘confetti’ of choice and pop away!

2021 Salt sign

While 2020 may have been a bit of a salty year, let’s take those salty tears and make salt art! This one is super easy. Use an old piece of cardboard from a cereal box, write out the numbers 2021 in glue and add salt. Once it’s dried you can use watercolor paints with food droppers to watch the paint spread and colour your 2021 sign. It creates a beautiful and dynamic effect. You can use exactly the same technique for creating a fireworks image like busymommymedia did!

Paper Plate Dropping Ball

The most exciting part of New YEars is watching the ball drop in the middle of Times Square! While I am unable to build a teleporting time machine to get us there pre-corna< I did find an awesome craft to give us almost the feeling as if we were there! This paper plate dropping ball countdown craft is super easy to create, works on numbers and looks super neat. Check our Natural Beach Living’s instructions to create your very own countdown fun.

Family fun with this printable reflection game

This great free printable by artsyfartsymamma (also fabulous name!) is the perfect way to have a family round up for the end of the year. Often we’re so busy running around chasing experiences that we never really give time for those experiences to sink in. Simply talking and sharing things from our year is just as important as the act itself. So take a breath, use these fabulous prompts and start sharing!

Here’s to a safe social distant friendly New Years Eve. Let’s say sayonara to 2020 and welcome the new energies of 2021.

Make sure you tag @learnplayspeak in all your fun New Years Eve family activities!

Peace out 2020, Mrs. G.
